What was your first job?
My first job, I was 11 years old. I had a paper route. I only delivered papers on Saturday and Sunday. This was in Ohio. It was snowing a lot. I never made any money, but I sure did learn a lot. I never made any money because I always had to pay the newspaper company for the papers that I was going to deliver.
And then. I was always behind on collecting the money from the people, so I used to sit on their stoop and wait until they would get home from work to collect the money.
What’s a challenge you have overcome and how did it shape you?
I think that I would feel like I overcame a challenge. A lot of people that I work with might disagree with me, but my challenge was definitely patience, and that is because I have a tendency to want to have things done immediately. And obviously in this industry, certain projects take a lot of time and a lot of different components and a lot of different departments. So, patience is a big challenge that I’m still working on, but I’ve overcome.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
I would tell my younger self to make lots of mistakes that I actually feel. The more you make, the more you define yourself, you know what you want and what you don’t want,
What impact do you hope to make with but trade?
I would hope that maybe I already made the impact after. All these years, I think the most important thing to me is to feel that my clients, the partners that are working with us, know that I am all in for them. And if something needs to be done that it’s going to be done.
